Geoff, I don’t know how to shrink the picture, but I would have done it if I had known. It must have been Steve.

There seems to be a misunderstanding that I am trying to impose my views on others. That’s not at all my intention and I apologize if it seems that way. I like defending my point of view, but I’m really not trying to convince anyone else, just let you know why I feel the way I do.

Hehe. I think the common thread is that you seem to think your tastes should be universal and the rest of the universe doesn’t agree.

Don’t get me wrong. TEB was a decent 90’s alt band. A bit bland and forgettable for my tastes but certainly not bad.

Also, that Semi-Charmed Kind of Life song is nigh impossible to sing on a karaoke machine. That is something important we should not forget in this discussion…

Once again, Steve, I don’t know why you think you know what “most people” think. Most people I know love 3EB.

remember when you were defending Stranger Than Fiction? This kind of feels like that.

I just listened to both those songs and I don’t hear any rapping.

And I always thought that last song was Blind Melon. Or Sublime. Or Cake. Honest.

MCQ, remember when you were defending Stranger Than Fiction? This kind of feels like that. It’s ok to love stuff that most people find middling. But you probably won’t succeed in convincing the rest of us.

Well, now we’re just going to get into a debate about musical genres, which is one of my pet peeves.

I’ll just say that you can’t compare what Blondie was doing (and yes, that was groundbreaking) to what 3EB did in the 90s. Blondie was essentially a dance band.

311 and 3EB are both rock bands, but they are contemporaries and came out with their sound at approximately the same time. 3EB’s first album was much more of a mainstream success than 311’s was, however.

311 had its major label debut four years prior to the debut from Third Eye Blind. And 311 didn’t invent the “rap/rock thing” either.

Blondie did it in the early 80s as one example.

No Tim, but those bands are in a slightly different category. 3EB was doing the same thing in a much more pop influenced genre than those bands. Here's what I'm talking about: And of course, the obvious:
