  4. I want to like CNN, but they have too many cooks stirring the pot. I want short, concise, thoughts and opinions. But every time a turn on Larry King or Anderson Cooper (which isn’t all that often) they’ve got 4-6 pundits/commentators, etc. talking past each other. And their post-debate show must have had 20 or so contributors.

MSNBC is fine, but I wish they would find someone other than Pat Buchanan to represent the view from the right.

  10. Are those really our only choices? Not that I really have an alternative in mind. I generally channel surf my cable news outlets because I think they’re all pretty bad in their own ways.

  11. I have to say, I actually feel less dumb now that I don’t visit CNN.com or msnbc.com.

  12. Seriously, do people here really watch cable news at all? You can get the facts quicker and without all the ‘chaff’ from the internet.

I picked CNN not because I like it but simply because MSNBC has become a parody of itself much the way Fox has. At least Fox has the excuse of offering a few perspectives that the other networks don’t. MSNBC doesn’t even have that to hold on to. But both MSNBC and Fox are, in my mind, right up there with the National Enquirer in terms of quality.

But seriously, unless there is some breaking video you want to watch that isn’t online yet, why on earth would you even bother turning on the cable networks?

  14. CNN is marginally better, and at least tries to hide its prejudices. But overall most network and cable news is pretty lame. The format could use some serious change.

Most of my news is from NPR or blogs. Also sites like Politico, Salon, Slate, etc. Also listen to BBC on XM once in a while and like it.

  15. PBS News Hour.

  16. I find myself tuning into PBS more and more. It’s funny what happens when ratings are of little concern.

  17. NPR is really a beacon of quality. Their science and technology news is outstanding. Yeah there are the occasional place to grumble. But they really do a fantastic job. Now that most of their shows are offered as podcasts you can even pick and chose what you want to listen to when you want. (i.e. so I’ll listen to Fresh Aire on my iPhone but only the shows I find interesting)

  18. Where’s Fox? Or is it beyond the pale?

  19. They are both awful. I picked CNN on principle.

But if you want to laugh, tune in to MSNBC. They are comically stupid.

  22. Comedy Central and the BBC. Cable news is Satan and will probably bring about the downfall of the world eventually. Especially Sean Hannity.

    Comment by jjohnsen — September 30, 2008 @ 8:01 pm

  23. Yeah! A Hannity-hater. I could do without him too. If the neo-con power brokers said the sky was plaid, he’d believe it.

  24. I don’t have cable because supergenius told me not to (I kid) But seriously, no cable, I just read Google News.

  25. The Economist, PBS (News Hour), and NPR (Morning Edition).

Cable news sucks. Too many glib idiots. And the ratio of content to airtime is horrible. Who has time for all of the repetition and commercials. And glib idiots yelling at each other!
