BSG “Rumor”

by Clark

Over at AICN there’s a “rumor” about BSG some might find interesting. (HT: Steve who didn’t do this post himself) I put rumor in quotes since I thought the stuff mentioned was pretty clear in the mid-season finale. (The way USA breaks up shows I can never keep straight what is the mid-season break from what is the season finale)

Anyway the rumor is that Earth is the Cylon homeworld and that the dead bodies and cities they found were Cylon. The one additional piece of information that Aaron Douglas (Tyrol) told was that this was from a Cylon civil war. I think that many of us had that as a suspicion although it wasn’t clear.

So not a huge reveal, but some might find it interesting.

The biggest bit was Douglas thinking that season 3 was better than 2 and season 4 better than 3. He must have been smoking some of that stuff so readily available up there in Vancouver. Because there’s no way season 3 or 4 is remotely as good as seasons 1 or 2. Steve actually told me he liked season 4 better than 3. I think season 4 was more consistent but there were some excellent episodes in season 3 (such as the rescue from New Caprica). Season 4 was consistently bland.

Of course it says something that despite my becoming increasingly disappointed in BSG that I still am more excited about it than anything else on TV this fall. (Heroes and Fringe from this week still sits on my DVR unwatched)

  1. Is that why we don’t have a Heroes recap? *sigh* I really enjoyed those. (And the Lost ones, too.)

Sorry, not a BSG watcher. Maybe I’ll pick up and watch the whole series next summer.

  2. FHL, no Heroes recap — I don’t watch it anymore.

Right now I am watching everything on DVD. The Closer, The Wire, british cop dramas…. all netflixed.

  5. Unlimited? Or can you only get a certain number of things per month?

  6. MCQ, I get three discs at a time, and can hold onto them as long as I want. I typically go through 3 dvds a week.

  7. …also it permits unlimited streaming from Netflix of all their online movie content.

  8. Wow. Ok, I’m starting to get why you axed the cable.

  9. I watched Heroes finally. It was definitely better than anything last year. However I agree with others who said the scientist guy (Mohinder) was acting completely out of character. This has long been my biggest criticism of the show (going back to the first season) The characters are there to move the plot the way the writers want. But they rarely feel authentic. (Outside of horn rimmed glasses guy who was the best written and most interesting guy in the show)

The second biggest problem is also a flaw this season. Once you introduce time travel then suddenly the show becomes somewhat more problematic. They are trying to deal with that this season with “the butterfly effect” but that doesn’t resolve much. I think that problem will end up dooming the show.

I will say though that Sylar was pretty interesting but there were way too many plot holes to excuse. Some were covered up by fairly implausible excuses. (i.e. Hiro saying he’ll never go back in time again after going back and forth 5 minutes in time because he was bored)

  10. I pretty much agree with your post here. However, it seems rather clear from the podcasts and cast interviews that the cast and crew of BSG feel like the series has improved from season to season.

That, of course, explains why (for awhile) it got worse and worse. No one on the show was aware of just how awful it got for awhile.

Still, as said above, even bad BSG is better than most anything else on TV.

Except Burn Notice, which isn’t artistically great by any means, but is consistently entertaining and well-written.
