  1. What would Ancient Rome be without Ancient Greece?

  2. Greece. Too many vomitoriums in Roma.

  3. Dan is right. No Rome without Greece. Architecturally, philosophically, scientifically… unbeatable.

  4. Greece, of course.

  5. But Greece only laid the framework. Rome took it to new heights. It’s like choosing “Pistol” Pete Maravich over Michael Jordan because he came first. Yeah, that’s true, but Jordan built upon that foundation and revolutionized the sport.

  6. Jordon also helped destroy the NBA, so I choose Greece.

  7. I picked ancient Greece because it was less Roman and more Greek.

  8. Druids for $800, Alex.

  9. The Greeks killed Socrates. Game. Match. Point.

Plus they had that creepy boy-love thing going.

  10. The Romans killed Jesus.

  11. Hellenization corrupted everything. Neener neener neener.

Besides which it’s pretty debatable whether the Romans deserve the blame for Jesus. But I’ll avoid that discussion so we don’t give Steve a heart attack with the topic that can’t be discussed.

  12. I’m voting for Greece purely because I like gyros. Greek food is pretty good and obviously Roman food sucked because I’ve never been to a Roman restuarant, even in Italy.

  13. If you’re in the northeast or Canada try a donair. Sort of like a gyro but much, much, much better. I don’t care for gyros either. But donairs are my favorite food and it’s (unfortunately) been years since I last had one as they aren’t available in the western US.

I would do almost anything if there was a way to get a donair from King of Donairs.

    Now I’m depressed.

  15. Mmmmm…nothing beats a gyro bought from a dodgy street vendor complete with flies buzzing all around the spinning lamb and served with a side of chips greasy enough to stop your heart and doused with salt and vinegar. So good you eat it standing right there on the sidewalk…

    wait, what was the question?

    Oh yeah…Greece.

  16. Shazbraz, can I interest you in a falafel?

MCQ, can you tell I don’t play tennis?

  17. Ahhh yes, it all makes sense now.

  18. Döner, is the preferred spelling, I believe. At least by the Turks.

    Comment by meems — August 26, 2008 @ 8:03 am

  19. The Greeks killed Socrates. Game. Match. Point.

Yeah, I voted for Greece as well. That Socrates was pretty annoying when you get down to it.

  20. Meems, that sure changes the whole Doner party feast up near Tahoe doesn’t it?
