I was in some dorms years ago and a friend of mine was slapping on some Drakkar one morning and I kind of joked that “that stuff doesn’t work.” He took up the challenge - splashed on a lot and walked down a hallway, fanning his face all the while to make sure the cologne smell was in the air. Women were turning in his direction and their faces were getting noticeably red.
We sat down to eat and there was a girl sitting across from us. She got this upset look on her face and said kind of loudly: “What are you wearing?!?!” She then got up and stood in the corner with her breakfast tray. A friend of hers explained that this smell reminded her too much of her boyfriend.
Needless to say, I was convinced that the stuff is effective. But I never went out and got a bottle. Cologne isn’t really my thing.
I always used Jupe. But mainly because a girlfriend loved it. I’m out now and have to confess I’ve not bought cologne since I had toddlers. (Mainly for $$ reasons - although I got my wife a small bottle of Chanel no 5 for Christmas a couple of years ago)
yeah, eternity was drakkar’s nemesis, not escape. i vote drakkar. it’s what the wooddy twins wore and i was madly in love with whichever one wanted to give me the time of day. all of the girls in school used to get the drakkar samples from the mall to put under their pillows at night.
I agree with makakona and sister blah on Eternity.
The best woman’s perfume is one that isn’t made anymore, but that I called the maker in France and they still had some around and because I was so charming they bottled some up* to give my wife after her first bottle was smashed by a careless (or possibly calculating) cat.
*The women at the Perfumerie said, “I’m so very sorry, but we don’t have any of the original labels left. They were made by a printer that we no longer use. I’ll have to use the label for the reformulated scent. Is that okay?”
Is that okay? For less than $40, I got to give my wife the best gift ever.
No such thing as a good cologne. I’m with all the “unscented” votes out there- the closest I can come to appreciating a manufactured scent is some bay-rum shave soap.
Wm Morris, wow, calling France to get a bottle of perfume for your wife. Now that’s what I call “putting some thought and effort into a gift”, not to mention very romantic.
My husband wears special cologne made by monks from Capri.
Okay, so it isn’t made by monks anymore but it is still hard to get hold of. I would be very sad if he stopped wearing it because it was literally the first thing I noticed about him. The first time we met he hugged me before I even got a chance to look at him and my overwhelming memory is of his smell. He only wears if for special occasions now, but I will always be willing to splash out on a bottle of it for him.
Eternity as a teen, Polo Safari now. Am I just old, when I was a kid everyone wore Eternity, I don’t even know if Escape was around.

Nothing beats Drakkar Noir as the most famous male cologne of all time.

I hate colognes and perfumes. I don’t even like scented laundry detergent.

How sad is it that when the question was “Marvel vs DC” I had definite opinions, but this question I had to google before I knew what it was asking?

Supergenius is proving his super genius on this one. Drakkar.

Oh, I had some Drakkar Noir. Did not notice the superlative effects, but I liked it.
I remember someone teasing me about it later, like, “oh, that was so high school” or something. Then I threatened to strangle him with my fish tie.

If one is going to go to the trouble, I would prefer something not mass-produced. The more difficult to identify, the more exciting.
