Can You Top Me?

by MCQ

Not to brag or anything, but my Oscar ballot reads 13 categories correct out of 24.  How about yours?  My favorite win was Best Original Song: Falling Slowly from Once.  My secret weapon was The Bourne Ultimatum, which I correctly picked for best sound mixing and best sound editing.  You may now grovel at my film genius.

  1. I didn’t keep a running tally. But as someone who has done a fair amount of editing, I did have Bourne winning. It was by far the best editing of the year out of the movies I saw.

I thought best picture / director and the male awards went as I thought they would. As for everything else, I had no clue.

  2. I didn’t keep a running tally either, but 2 seconds before they announced each one I correctly guessed probably about 14 out of 24. So I guess I win.

  3. The Oscar party we attend every year has a contest, that I happened to win with 13 correct picks. My big picks were Bourne for the sound categories and Counterfitters for foreign film(it was the only one I’d heard of).

  4. The earlier you call it, the more points you get. I call Heath Ledger for Supporting Actor next year right now.

  5. Ahem…Since we’re not bragging and you get more points for calling it early, check out comment #29 on this thread, posted 3 weeks before nominations came out.

  6. I was very impressed that Jon Stewart let Marketa Irglova come back out to say what she wanted to before she was cut off. And then what she said was very cool. You know she was 17 when Once was filmed, which means she’s what? 19 or 20 now?

I haven’t seen any of the movies nominated and really couldn’t care less who won, except for Glen and Marketa.

  7. I can’t remember how to get into the KB Oscar contest, but in another pool I entered, I was 14 for 24. Not too bad.

  8. Oh, I’m just so glad that Falling Slowly won. That truly made my night!

  9. Rusty: no documentation, no credit. You lose.

jjohnsen: You tied me, so it’s a push, but how did you know it would be Bourne in the sound categories? I just guessed.

Last Lemming: That’s a pretty good prediction, you nailed one of the less predictable ones, but it’s still only one point in my book.

BTD Greg: Ok, so maybe you beat me by one, but I want to see the ballot before I give you credit.

  10. I tried to watch. After 20 minutes I couldn’t take it anymore and went and read a textbook – which was much more interesting and exciting.

    Still Juno won best screenplay.

  11. MCQ – You should have entered the Kulturblog Predict the winner – you would have won! As it was I won with 12!

    Comment by Rebecca — February 26, 2008 @ 4:36 am

  12. Rebecca: I tried. It wasn’t working for me no matter what I did. Some kind of technical glitch. Oh well, you deserve the win, just remember that it comes with an asterisk!
