An opportunity missed

Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon will be given a theatrical release before running on Cartoon Network and TNT.

Here’s the good: the previous Clone Wars cartoons were fantastic, much funnier and edgier than the recent syrup fed intravenously to comatose Star Wars fans. Also, the animation on this new series looks great.

Here’s the bad: if you’re going to officially expand the Star Wars universe, why-oh-why not return to the Rebellion years? Something between IV and V, V and VI, or post VI? I never want to see young Anakin EVER AGAIN!

Of course, I will watch it, sad addict that I am.

  1. You’ll have to watch it Brit as your sons will be DESPERATE to watch it!

I can’t view the trailer for some reason right now, but if it’s like the clone wars series it’ll be good.

  2. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the rebellion as well, but, I think that the Clone Wars is a natural place to mine for additional stories. Plus, it would lead nicely into Lucas’ plan to do a live action TV show that spans from EP III to EPIV

  3. Read the books and comics if you want anything after all the movies or during any of the time periods between or before movies.

They’re (almost) all canon. Some haters claim they aren’t, but Lucas says they are and Lucasfilm treats them as canon, so they are.

Unless you have something against reading?

  4. LOL Ivan. Suffice it to say that I was reading Star Wars comics and EU novels while you were still dusting crops, boy.

  5. The live action show will be taking place between III and IV (or as I like to call it – the first)

  6. Given that the two previous Clone Wars micro-series were the best thing to come out of the whole prequels idea, do I dare contemplate the thought that this might be worthwhile?

  7. Well, I was reading the comics and novels while I was dusting crops, so I guess it evens out.

  8. Ivan,
Henceforth I shall call you Grand Admiral Thrawn.

  9. Far be it from me to claim so lofty a title. I feel more like either Qorl or Don-Wan Khiotay.

  10. The animation doesn’t look as good as the pseudo-Samurai Jack Clone Wars.
