Giving the fans what they want.

by Supergenius

Is it really that difficult? And yet so often our expectations are ignored and scorned. Remember the Fantastic Four movie? Bah.

Well, Jon Favreau knows how to win over this fanboy’s heart. Check out the new Iron Man trailer. 2008 is going to be a great, great year for comic book adaptations. I predict this will be a winner.

Cars 2? :(

by a random John

I hope this isn’t true.  While Lightning and Mater sell tons of merchandise, the movie wasn’t the strongest.  In fact, it was the only Pixar movie that at some point felt too long to me, right about when Sally grabs McQueen for a drive.

Now an Incredibles sequel is something I could get behind, especially if the characters have aged a few years so that Jack Jack gets a bit more screen time.

Best Newman & Redford movies

by Clark

robert-redford-and-paul-newman.jpgSo I took my wife out to Redford’s Tree Room for her birthday tonight. We got put in the corner beside Redford’s Butch Cassidy photos. We got to talking and were doing lists. Obviously two of the lists had to be Robert Redford movies and Paul Newman movies. So here’s mine. Let’s hear yours.

Speaking of the Teletubbies…

by The Brit

I don’t know whether it’s reached America yet, but prepare yourselves for the new BBC children’s show, In the Night Garden. I cannot even begin to explain how crazy little British kids are for the exploits of Upsy Daisy, Igglepiggle, Makka Pakka, the Pontipines, the Wottingers, the Haahoos, and the Tombliboos. My daughter sits transfixed by what can only be described as the kids’ TV equivalent of a deep, warm bath with candles and incense. I love it too and constantly try to coax my daughter into speaking ITNG-language: “TOM-bi-lee-boooos,” “Daaysy-Doooo,” etc. If it comes to PBS, be sure to watch. Put your pajamas on and make yourself a hot drink.

Harrison Ford movie-o-meter

by The Brit

It used to be said that Harrison Ford had never been in a bad movie. Man, did that change. Let’s see if the body of Han Solo’s work is now mostly good or mostly crap. Crude scoring as follows: 10 for good, 5 for OK, 0 for rubbish. If his average is above 5 then we can still consider Ford’s career as good. (more…)

Can You Top Me?

by MCQ

Not to brag or anything, but my Oscar ballot reads 13 categories correct out of 24.  How about yours?  My favorite win was Best Original Song: Falling Slowly from Once.  My secret weapon was The Bourne Ultimatum, which I correctly picked for best sound mixing and best sound editing.  You may now grovel at my film genius.

Guilty Pleasure Confession

by MCQ

I took my 11 yr old daughter to Colbie Caillat’s concert on Friday night.  I went dragging my feet, but I left in a much different frame of mind.  I now must confess.  I feel so guilty.  The shame is almost too much to bear.  But, yes, it’s true:  I… Love… Colbie.

Confession is good for the soul. So, who’s your guilty pleasure?

Film Review: Definitely, Maybe

by Supergenius

After Supergenius got burnt by 27 Dresses, he sent his friend Maran to see Definitely, Maybe while SG stayed home and played Super Mario Galaxy. Here is Maran’s report:

——————–

definitely_maybe.jpgNo Valentine’s Day would be complete without one of those feel-good divorce movies. Definitely, Maybe is a story of true love recounted by soon-to-be divorcé Will (Ryan Reynolds) to his 10-year-old daughter Maya (Abigail Breslin), where he details three love affairs and Maya has guess which one is her mom. Although the frame of the story has some cuteness potential, the idea of detailing one’s intimate relationships to a 10-year-old daughter is mildly twisted and certainly implausible. As a parent myself, the word “threesome” would never enter into any bedtime story, especially one about how I met their mother. (more…)
