Evan Almighty vs Field of Dreams
In the comments to my previous post Ivan complained that I was comparing two movies with only superficial similarities. Well I have an even worse comparison:
Evan Almighty is a very poor remake of Field of Dreams.  As SG would say:

I totally agree.

LOL. Or Field of Dreams is a simple retelling of Noah. Only with good stuff happening instead of bad.
Here’s one that’s better.
Terminator is a retelling of Halloween only with robots instead of maladjusted kids in Shatner masks. Aliens is the same, only with a creepy alien. Aliens is a retelling of Assault on Precinct 13 which was itself a retelling of Fort Apache the Bronx which was a remake of Fort Apache.
Of course Terminator and Alien were vastly superior to Halloween. In my opinion the only real good movies John Carpenter made were The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China and Escape from New York. (Although I did like the first half of In the Mouth of Madness) I don’t know what happened to him in the late 80’s. Some people liked They Live but I thought it was annoying. And nothing he did after amounted to much.

I love Big Trouble in Little China. This reminds me, I need to put Escape from New York on my NetFlix queue.
Maybe Field of Dreams is a retelling of the story of Abraham? If you kill him, blessings will come?

a) Halloween is a great film.
b) They Live is a great film.
c) Even if Carpenter’s only great films were the three you mention, Clark. That’s still a lot better track record than most directors have.

Yeah, but it’s all the crap he does that disappoints…
