Live Music Review: The Go! Team
It’s been two weeks since the concert, and I still smile when I think about it. A dynamic, fun-loving group, The Go! Team combines hip-hop, sampling and old-fashioned beats with cheerleading. It’s a great band for dancing, and their shows are famous for their energy and drive.
Neumos’ was the place once again, but this time the opening bands were more interesting. First up was Team Gina (not sure how Gina is pronounced), a two-womyn lesbian rap band that reminded me of what Kid-n-Play would have sounded like if they were grubby lesbians. They were completely hilarious and handed out glow armbands to the crowd. Next we had Bodies of Water, which weren’t as fun as Team Gina but who had an overall superior sound. The lead singer was overconfident in her abilities, IMHO.
The Go! Team were perfect. The lead rapper/singer, Ninja, broke out some amazing dance moves and exuded raw energy the whole night long. Each song was a hit, each moment of banter magical. Ninja was constantly moving and getting the crowd going — it was like a completely rocked-out amped up pep rally. If you have the opportunity to see them in concert, I highly recommend it.
So, did you actually dance? Or just stand with your arms folded and bounce your head when the groove really got going?

Greg, when Ninja tells all the men in the house to get out there and show her their moves, you’d best damn well get out there. And thus I did. Similarly, Bride of Supergenius was obligated to shake her booty.
