Very Short FotC Review: New Fans
Very Short Review of Flight of the Concords: New Fans
In this episode, the world of Mel implodes. Highlights: the drawing in her bathroom of Bret & Jemain, and the acid trip sequence. First time I’d ever say that a story about being on drugs was interesting, if not entertaining.
Generally this one made me giggle more than the On the Tour. To me, the threesome plot was a bit tired. Best part was (spoiler warning) the camera on their beds and whether Jemain “looked” during the night.
The BeeGees style video about women of the world was good, not as brilliant as the french language one. The acid trip video was funny when the drawing from Mel’s bathroom was actually recreated with fancy video magic. I did laugh at Jemain’s 16th-ing of the acid tab.I appreciated Dave’s expanded appearance and his attempt at obscuring living with his parents. I was kind of distracted by the window though. Trees, in New York? Do they live against Central Park? Isn’t that kinda fancy?
Consistency issue with Bret not liking beer- he drinks it in the Tour episode. Mel’s obsessive “I get what I want” wasn’t as funny as she was in the beginning of the series. I’m not sure when she stopped being funny, maybe when they expanded her storyline and made her psychotic? I liked her as the mildly addled stalker-fan, not as the SWF/Fatal Attraction girl.
As ever I’m more interested in what y’all think more than my opinion so please post your thoughts.
The French language one is hard to top; but more and more I’m convinced that the jokes here are very subtle, simple jokes stated quite clearly. This isn’t a really “clever” comedy, though it is funny: it’s very straightforward.
