New music?
OK, the radio.blog is back up, let’s get some music posted. What have you been into lately?
I recently discovered a band that I saw open for Pelican called Your Black Star. Kind of a stupid name, but I haven’t been able to stop listening to their albums I picked up at the show. Very 80s influenced but in a way that I love. They don’t sound like any one band in particular, like some current indie bands I could name. (*cough* Interpol *cough* Joy Division wannabes *cough*) They have a swirling guitar sound that is sort of like the Cure/Chameleons/U2—any number of 80s bands.
I’ll post a couple songs to the radio.blog. What have you been into? If I have it, I’ll try to post songs to the radio.blog.

Susan,
The last two CDs I’ve purchased have been Spoon’s “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” and Eisley’s “Combinations.” I’ll email you a track from each tonight when I get home for inclusion on the radio.blog. And, although they are not really new, I’ve also been grooving on a Nashville techo-pop band called Venus Hum.

How about some love from Tegan and Sara?
Comment by Supergenius — August 28, 2007 @ 10:41 am
I’ve posted my favorite song from Tegan & Sara’s latest album. Seriously awesome.

I am loving Liam Finn right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVpfGQ3TvPA

New discoveries for me are Andrew Bird’s “Armchair Apocrypha” and The National’s “Boxer.” Both are very good.
Comment by Greg — August 28, 2007 @ 12:50 pm
susan, i really love the jesu song “star” you put on the radio blog.
Comment by mike d. — August 28, 2007 @ 12:56 pm
I don’t have the Andrew Bird release, but I have his earlier stuff, and he’s pretty entertaining. I agree about the National–I’ll post a song.
Mike I never get sick of that Jesu EP.

Susan, good call with the National. How about the new Spoon?
Comment by Supergenius — August 28, 2007 @ 2:22 pm
I’ll post some when Greg sends it, I don’t have it. (Thought I did.)

Susan, I’ve been digging Iced Earth lately. It’s power metal, but not as (lyrically) cheesy as, say, Hammerfall.
I also finally decided to get those early Black Sabbath albums on CD (hence the recent post on War Pigs). I must admit that “The Black Box” is now one of my favorite box sets. I never realized how good a CD re-master sounds compared to an old cassette recording, especially for something recorded (mostly) in the early 70s.
Maybe you should do a post on favorite box sets? They’re such a quick and easy way to upgrade from vinyls or cassettes. I have lots of them and love each one.

Love that National song. The new(ish) album by Christ. called “Blue Shift Emissions” is really good if you’re into Boards of Canada-type down-tempo electronic music. You can hear samples on Bleep.com.

David, my husband loves Iced Earth.
Good suggestion on the box sets.

I just heard a track from the new Stars album, and it was FANTASTIC. You can stream it at All Songs Considered.

“No explanation is needed for listening to Better Than Ezra. They are just plain awesome.”
That is, sadly, an attitude I don’t run in to often!

I hear you gabby. “Before The Robots” is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have no idea why it didn’t take them right to the top. I have also seen them live twice (once in New Orleans) and those two concerts stand as two of the best I have ever seen. Amazing. I can’t figure out why BTE isn’t huge. Maybe they don’t really want to be huge.
Incidentally, I feel the same way about the Damnwells. I defy anyone to listen to “Air Stereo” and not love it.

The show in New Orleans must have been awesome! I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them live…yet. I hope to remedy that. I think Live Again and Under You are two of the best songs ever. I’m not sure I could adequately state how much I love them!
I haven’t heard of the Damnwells… I’ll have to check them out!

It’s always nice to meet a fellow ezralite. They are going to be @ the House of Blues in New Orleans on September 14th. It will be a show to end all shows I promise you. You can also go here and demand that they come to your town.
The Damnwells are playing Bumbershoot in Seattle this weekend. I will be there if possible. Supergenius, be warned!
Comment by MCQ — September 1, 2007 @ 2:22 pm
The Frames and Ted Leo are also playing Bumbershoot. You guys are gonna be sorry if you miss it!
Comment by Susan M — September 1, 2007 @ 3:24 pm
Amen Susan! Are you going?
Comment by MCQ — September 1, 2007 @ 4:53 pm
No, I’m in Cali. But my friend is.
Comment by Susan M — September 1, 2007 @ 5:22 pm
I’m in Utah, but I’m going to try to get to Seattle if I can. I think I have some skymiles to use! Anyone have hotel recommendations near Bumbershoot?
Comment by MCQ — September 1, 2007 @ 5:46 pm
You know Bumbershoot is this weekend, right? As in, right now.
Comment by Susan M — September 1, 2007 @ 9:22 pm
The Damnwells play Monday, as in tomorrow.
Comment by MCQ — September 2, 2007 @ 9:59 am
So you’re flying in just for Monday? Places to stay…I can’t really remember. There’s gotta be hotels all around the Seattle Center though.
Comment by Susan M — September 2, 2007 @ 10:37 am
Yeah, going up Monday morning, coming back Tuesday. I think we’ll stay at the Hilton, same place I stayed when I took the Washington Bar Exam. Bad memories.

In honor of Bumbershoot, can we get some Damnwells on the Radio Blog? My favorite is “I Am A Leaver”

You’ll need to send me an mp3. whenigodeaf at gmail dot com.

I only have I-tunes files. I think they’re mp4. And they’re protected.

[...] David J suggested a post on CD box sets. I only have a handful, but if I had to only limit myself to one, it would definitely be the Who. [...]
