Next Cinemasochist Theme
The next movie theme is….. pirates.
UPDATE: I’d be willing to expand this category to seafaring in general, just because I want to include Waterworld in the mix.
What movie should I be forced to watch? Remember, it has to be on netflix.

Pirate Movies? That’s a pretty narrow selection, but here goes:
Cutthroat Island Terrible in every way.
Cabin Boy–Should only be watched for the David Letterman cameo which he did as favor to his friend Chris Elliott. Might be one of the worst movies ever made.
Hook–Wow, what an incredibly boring movie. Probably one of the more disappointing movie experiences of my childhood.
Ice Pirates–But I think you probably liked it.
Six Days Seven Nights–The beginning of the end of Harrison Ford’s career.

Six Days Seven Nights is a pirate movie? I didn’t make it more than 10 minutes before I turned it off.

Seriously, Cabin Boy? There was one part where I remember laughing pretty hard (just one) but I don’t remember what it was.

No, really, it has to be Six Days Seven Nights. That was just a truly brutal film. And full of pirates.

You could be right. There is something to be said about a movie trying to be good and failing miserably like Six Days Seven Nights (or Battlefield Earth for that matter), whereas Cabin Boy had no intention of being critically acclaimed.

Cutthroat Island is one of my dad’s favorite movies–we watched it when I took my now-wife to meet my family for the first time. It’s horrible to watch a terrible movie, want to make snide comments the whole time, but know that someone you love (my dad, not my wife) loves it to death.
That said, I’m with Susan–I got bored and irritated with Six Days Seven Nights before the plane even crashed, and had no idea there were pirates involved. At least Cutthroat Island is (unintentionally?) funny; as best I can tell, Six Days Seven Nights is just painful.

OK, moving beyond the choices mentioned above, here’s an amazing movie. This is an 80s teen-movie kind of remake of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance. As bad as it sounds, it’s actually worse. I mean, the film has multiple dirty jokes about extendable telescopes, for goodness sake!!!
We have to decide, here. Are we just trying to punish Supergenius? If so, Six Days Seven Nights has got to be the winner–two of our commenters couldn’t even sit through the whole thing! Or are we trying to elicit really fun reviews of bad movies? The Pirate Movie would be a lot more fun to hear about that Harrison Ford and Anne Heche, I think.

My vote would go for either The Pirate Movie with the Blue Lagoon guy and the Eight is Enough girl or Cutthroat Island (because it is just lame). Or, Six Days and Seven Nights because I remember it as being less enjoyable for Cutthroat Island.
