Band Spotlight: Ladyhawk

by Susan M

This week’s Band Spotlight is firmly aimed at Ladyhawk, an indie rock band that I think a lot of you KB’ers will enjoy. Read on to learn more about them, in their own words—in this case, the words of their bassist/vocalist, Sean Hawryluk.

Band name:
ladyhawk

Band members:
Duffy, Sean, Darcy, Ryan

Website:
http://www.ladyhawkladyhawk.com/

Formed in:
the basement of the 20th house in the winter of 2004

Location:
vancouver, B.C., canada

Genre/sound:
rock

For fans of:
beer, singing, campfires and good times

Best description you’ve heard of your music:
“they sound like the tragically hip, but just the good parts.”

Describe your best (or worst!) live performance:
our album release show in vancouver was groovy. lot’s of good folk gettin down. we’ve played many great sets and many crappy ones though…

Releases:
our first record was just released on 06/06/06

Tell us about the song we’ve posted to the radio.blog:
there’s a verse, a chorus, then a verse and a chorus, then a big dual solo section through the whole verse and chorus, then we do the verse and chorus again at the end, but finish off with a bit of a jam out.

Anything else we should know about you:
we’re fun times. we promise.

Upcoming show dates:
check our website regularly… http://www.ladyhawkladyhawk.com/

I’ve posted “The Dugout,” a song from their self-titled 2006 release, to the radio.blog.

Also, the band will be doing some tour dates with Magnolia Electric Company later this year. Check ‘em out.

  1. Is there any band out of Vancouver that doesn’t rule? Great profile, Susan. And if they’re lined up with Magnolia Electric, it sounds like a good lineup.

  6. It’s hard to say. Maybe a little bit Meat Puppets and a little bit uh…Posies?

  7. I think I read somewhere that they sound like/were influenced by Dinosaur Jr (who I’m not familiar with) and the Replacements. I don’t really hear the Replacements. I do hear some Bob Mould in the singer’s voice, but maybe not on this song.

  8. “Your dark eyes shine like a city skyline”

    Love that line.
