Easy choice. I wouldn’t call them definitive, but I much prefer the Cars to the other two.
And don’t get me started on the “New Cars” with Todd Rungren.

Susan, I hope I didn’t strongarm you into calling the Cars new wave. =)
Comment by LoganB — April 28, 2006 @ 11:21 am
She needed strongarming. :-[

I’m just a little tired of the cars song, due to unending advertising campaigns.
So the Ramones win for me!
Joy Division=Love will tear us apart (for me anywho)
Comment by Jennifer — April 28, 2006 @ 12:04 pm
Yeah, the use of the Cars song in a recent campaign ad killed the song.
Comment by gabby — April 28, 2006 @ 12:07 pm
right now i’m in a fun mood, which means that dreary joy division songs don’t have a chance against the ramones.
Comment by mike d. — April 28, 2006 @ 1:10 pm
Well I’m not loving any of these… therefore the Ramones win. (Solid logic, right?)
Comment by Geoff J — April 28, 2006 @ 1:42 pm
I hate it when stupid ad campaigns kill good songs.
(Revolution, anyone?)
Comment by Jennifer — April 28, 2006 @ 5:49 pm
I haven’t seen any commercials using the Cars. You guys need Tivo/DVR.
And what do you mean, dreary? I think this Joy Division song is brilliant. “Dance dance dance to the radio…” I purposely stayed away from a too-dreary (or obvious) song.
But the Cars are so fun…Not sure which I’ll vote for yet.

Well, I haven’t heard any ad campaigns either. It’s been years since I’d heard that song. As a group, the Cars don’t win, but I voted for that song anyway ’cause I thought it ruled the other two.

Have TiVo. Two of them. It still somehow slipped through…

I’m not longer as bothered by songs in advertisements, since it seems every artist’s and group’s music is up for sale.
I have a special thing for the Cars. “Just What I Needed” will always be a special song to me because it was one of the first songs I heard on a rock radio station and it immediately grabbed my ear. Also, there was a summer in my youngster life where their album Heartbreak City was a constant listen. The song “Magic” on that album … I still love it. I had a cheap taperecorder and a cassette and I’d ride my bicycle around, clinging to that taperecorder with one hand, listening to their music. Yes, I was odd. I don’t quite know how to categorize the Cars. They are more rock and pop than new wave, in my opinion.
The Ramones are a band I saw live many years ago, at the Ritz. I was disappointed. I still like listening to their albums though.

Did I say “Heartbreak City”? I meant “Heartbeat City.” Yes, it has been a long time.

Sad but true story: My high school was going through a time when parents were worrying about providing good, clean, alcohol-free, supervised entertainment for their kids. Someone managed to book the Ramones for a gig. It was cancelled due to lack of interest.
Comment by Bryce I — May 2, 2006 @ 8:11 am
That is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard…
Comment by gabby — May 2, 2006 @ 8:58 am
Holy crap! That is terrible, Bryce.
Our big high school feat was booking The Untouchables for a dance. That Homecoming ruled.
Comment by Geoff J — May 2, 2006 @ 10:34 am
I really like the Ramones, but they are facing what is probably the best song the Cars ever recorded. The Cars won.
Comment by HP — May 2, 2006 @ 10:34 am
Geoff — The Untouchables? Were they an L.A. ska/mod band from the 80’s? If so, I think I may have seen them a few times.

When I was a kid I used to love that tv show with Pierce Brosnan in it. What was it called? My dad used to complain about his accent. He thought it was a lame fake, and I believe he even compared it to some mix between a British accent and an Irish one. I laughed pretty hard when I found out Brosnan was born and raised in both Ireland and London.
