The Greatest Tragedy of our Modern Era

by Rusty

Arrested Development is being axed.

The fact that Everybody Loves Raymond lasted more than three episodes and AD won’t make it beyond three seasons reveals the sad state of America. Our darkest hour is yet at hand.

I don’t know what else to say.

  1. Nooooooooooooooo!

The episode this week with Molezilla and JetPack Boy was genius. How can this happen?

BTW, I can’t believe what they get away with on that show. “Camel toe” this week. Constant “blowing” references. And once someone even said “reach around.” But the “analrapist” was just soooo funny.)

  2. For shame. SHAME. This was the funniest show on U.S. network TV in a long, long time.

To be fair: AD hasn’t been axed, just reduced. Fox requested 13 instead of a full 22 eps. It’s only mostly dead.

  4. Let me say this, I’ve never seen the show, though I’ve wanted too, and probably will on DVD. But let me ask all of you, why did nobody (including myself and in spite of incredible reviews and numerous awards) watch this show? Please tell me because I don’t understand. I enjoy comedies, especially when they’re smart and well-written. But for some reason I’ve never seen a minute of it, nor could I tell you when it’s on. Any ideas on this?

  5. It used to be on Sunday nights, same time as Alias, which is why I never watched it.

Now it’s on Mondays at 8, and that’s earlier than I normally start watching tv. (I can’t BELIEVE they get away with having it on at 8!)

I got into it after renting the first season on DVD–it’s better on DVD, anyway.

  6. The humour isn’t entirely brainless. You have to think to catch some of it. This is waaaay over the head of most of the TV watching population.

  7. Truly this is sad news, but the bright side is that we don’t have to watch AD jump the shark, speaking of which adding Scott Baio to the cast was an odd choice, it made me miss the Fonz.

This way AD will live in infamy and maintain Twin Peaks-like cult status. The Office is only 12 episodes and a X-mas special and that’s part of what makes it so amazing. AD will have a similar reputation.

  8. They are trying to sell themselves to a cable network. I hope someone realizes how great it would be to pick it up.

    Now, I’ll just shed a tear…

  9. This is bad news indeed. My wife and I love AD. We didn’t realize that it was getting low ratings. It is a very refreshing show. Too bad. . . .

  10. Does the fact that many people say to themselves “Oh, I’ll just watch it on DVD” and don’t bother to tune in on the show’s scheduled night make a difference? I’ve heard many a person say that they love the show, have watched it on DVD, but don’t watch it on it’s scheduled night. I too have watched it on DVD and loved it, but is that what killed the show? I don’t really know how TV works anymore what with the availability of TV on DVD nowadays.

  12. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that all of my favorite shows will be prematurely cancelled.

Goodbye, Arrested Development, and say hi in TV heaven to Greg the Bunny, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, The Job, and soon, Scrubs. Sniff…

  13. NFlanders:

You have excellent taste in sitcoms. My wife and I are watching Greg the Bunny via Netflix right now. It’s not quite as funny as I remembered, but then again we’re starting to get the episodes that feature more of Tardy — and things are getting funnier.

RE Scott Baio: Come on! Bob Loblaw is hilarious.
