    2. King of Pain by a country mile.

    3. This is kind of a hard choice for me. I love the basic driving humor of “Can’t Stand Losing You” but also the literate imagery of “Fortress Around Your Heart.” I can’t decide because the two songs are so different but both so good.

I’ll have to listen to them again.

    4. Ok, I just gave them all a re-listen. “King of Pain” has been eliminated for too much cowbell. “Can’t Stand Losing You” is a good song but it is dated by a reference to LPs (”and they’re all scratched). So I’m choosing “Fortress Around Your Heart.”

    5. TOO MUCH COWBELL?

It is a toughie but I had to go with King of Pain.

    6. There’s a skeleton choking on a crust of bread >> I had to stop in my track for fear of walking on the mines I’d laid > I guess you’d call it suicide, but I’m too full to swallow my pride

      I need more cowbell!!

    7. “Fortress” has that kind of neo-jazzy sound Sting was into at the time, which I liked a lot.

    8. I confess to incitement. After a few earlier threads I knew the mere mention of cowbell would provoke a response.

Nice link to the database Bryce. For some reason they’ve neglected “King of Pain” from their list, though they have other Police songs listed.

    9. For me, Sting is like milk: the longer he goes past his experation date, the more he starts to stink. Using that logic, I picked “Can’t Stand Losing.” My opinion is due in part to the fact that “King of Pain” was terribly overplayed when I was in high school and part to the fact that Sting’s solo career really has taken an awful nosedive into adult contemporary dross.

    10. I’m with BTG Greg. Maybe it’s my preference for actual rock and roll over pop, but I think “Can’t Stand Losing” will prove to hold up better over time than the other two. Having said that, I still like the other two songs. I think it is pretty cool that Sting got Branford Marsalis to join his solo band too.
