The Man in the Back says Everyone Attack there’s going to be a BALLROOM BLITZ!

by Brian Gibson

Are you ready for some hip action?

Tune in this Wednesday, June 1st at 9PM/8PM Central to ABC.  I learned my lesson when the first show I plugged on Kulturblog got cancelled immediately after its first episode, but I can’t resist recommending DANCING WITH THE STARS–it’s STRICTLY BALLROOM meets AMERICAN IDOL.  Celebrities are paired with world-class ballroom dancers, trained for five weeks, then forced to compete on live television, where they’re at the mercy of a panel of judges AND the entire nation who can call in and vote for their favorite couple.  In the end only one couple rules supreme.

It’s fun for the whole family(which can not be said of a lot of other projects I’ve worked on).  Actually maybe not, many of the costumes are skimpy and because it is a Live Television Event the risk of wardrobe malfunctions runs high, but you should all tune in anyway.  I, myself, was never a fan of ballroom dancing until I took this job and I now have newfound respect for those who can do the Quick Step, or the Paso Doble, or the Rumba.

What I didn’t know about ballroom dancing is that it’s so dang sexy.  Every dance tells a story and it’s usually the same story that I would briefly summarize like this: Man seduces Woman.  We’ve got some of the best ballroom dancers in the world and some celebrities you likely never heard of, but it doesn’t matter because dancing is the real star of the show. For more information click here: http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancing/

Tune in and see if  four-time World Heavyweight Champion, Evander Holyfield can pull off a Cha-Cha-Cha.  Keep an eye out for 22 year-old dance phenom, Ashly Del Grosso who hails from Sandy, Utah.  And prove naysayer Steve Evans wrong.

In short, The Girl in the Cornah says gee I got to Warn Ya, it’s gonna be a BALLROOM BLITZ!

(One last thing…Susan do you happen to have the Sweet classic "Ballroom Blitz?"  I’d love to hear it on radio.blog.)

  1. Sorry, not “Ballroom Blitz,” but I can probably get it from someone I know.

I’ve seen commercials for this show and wanted to see it just because I love to watch dancing. Professional ballroom dancers are pretty incredible.

  2. I agree, Susan. Don’t go out of your way to find “Ballroom Blitz,” although I do love that song. Tune in there’ll be some amazing dancing.

  3. Dang, I missed it!

It’ll be on next week, right?

  4. I caught it. My husband walked in when Evander Holyfield was dancing and promptly burst out laughing. “What on earth are you watching? You are so weird!”

I thought it was fun, although the host and the judges were annoying. It sure makes you realize how difficult ballroom dancing can be.

Isn’t Rachel Hunter Rod Stewart’s wife?

  5. Seeing J. Peterman from Seinfeld doing the Cha-Cha alone was worth the price of admission.

  6. Rachel Hunter is the former Mrs. Rod Stewart, Susan.

Thanks to everyone who watched. Tune in next week for more. The ratings were pretty good for a change, so I’m very happy.

  7. For those who missed on Wednesday. . .

The ratings were so good that ABC decided to rebroadcast on Sunday night (tonight, June 5), I think at 9:00 PM, probably 8 in Utah.

I will toot Brian’s horn for him, as usual! The ratings for the premier on Wednesday were the second highest summer reality TV premier on ABC ever—second only to the first season of Survivor! Hurrah Brian! I am pumped that he is finally working on a show that might go into multiple seasons, and we might actually be able to pay the mortgage on the house we just bought. Keep up the good work babe.
