Geekiness Run Amok
I can’t help it; I am looking forward to Episode III. What is wrong with me?
Well, I’ll tell you — I just read Kevin Smith’s review.
Spoilers ensue.
The review, which you can read here, is spoiler-rich but gushing with geek pride. Here’s my favorite little bit — you read it, and tell me this movie doesn’t sound awesome, SW fans:
"after cutting his legs
and arm off, Ben leaves Skywalker burning alive on the shores of a lava river,
with Anakin spitting venomous sentiments at his departing mentor… this flick is
so satisfyingly tragic, you’ll think you’re watching "Othello" or "Hamlet".
Now Othello or Hamlet, I’m not so sure about, but the rest sounds AWESOME!

I’m getting more of a Moby Dick/Star Trek II vibe:
“With my last breath, I spit at thee; For hate’s sake, I stab at thee!”

yep; me too. But these are iconic things we’ve had in our heads since the initial trilogy — it’s exciting to think that just maybe, Lucas might fulfill our geek wishes. Like Lucas has said, of the content he’d initially sketched out for the series, 10% was for Ep I, 10% for ep II and 80% for Ep III. Yay!

Sweeeeet! When I saw a bit of a fire/lava planet in the commercial, I just knew Anakin was going to get dipped in it. I must be on the dark side … because I can’t wait to see this flick. Steve, for those who care (not me!), you might want to give them a more dramatic warning (maybe in the title) that there’s a major spoiler right at the front of your post.

Wow. Thanks for posting that.
I’d abandoned all hope that Ep.III might be worthwhile & had resigned myself to suffering through 3 hours of bad acting, embarrassing dialogue and annoying characters. This totally changes my mind. I’m even wondering if Lucas intentionally made Annakin completely annoying so we’d be glad to see him dismembered and burning. I know I’m looking forward to it.

Allison, this is all setting us up for a fall. Remember the George Lucas compared it to Titanic recently. Not a good omen.

Part of me is excited and part of me is cynical like Clark. I’m trying to remain neutral.

Steve,
the first website you look at in the morning is the theforce.net, isn’t it? Hah!

Steve,
Are you glad now that you read this before seeing it? I am glad that I didn’t.

I’m glad I read it. It got me more excited about the movie, and frankly I felt energized by it.
