What should I see?
Apologies for a self-indulgent post. It’s my birthday tomorrow, and my wife and I are going to the movies for the first time in forever. What should I see?
I’m constrained by the fact that I have some refunded tickets that I have to use by tomorrow from when I took my kids to see The Incredibles and they got too scared to finish the movie. So I’m going to the local Carmike theatre, where I have my choice of the following:
Blade: Trinity
Closer
Finding Neverland
Flight of the Phoenix
Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events
Meet the Fockers
National Treasure
Ocean’s Twelve
Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie
The Incredibles
The Polar Express
Actually, the list is a little shorter than this, since Kristen and I generally don’t see R-rated movies, so Blade and Closer are probably out. I’ve seen half of The Incredibles and Kristen has seen The Polar Express, so these have less weight.
Any suggestions? Any must-not-sees? Your help is appreciated.
Finding Neverland is supposed to be fantastic, though I don’t think it did well at the box-office (not that that means anything as to it’s quality). Series of Unfortunate Events is should be good (the illustrator of the original books is in my ward, Brett Helquist), though I think it depends on whether you like Jim Carrey or not. Ocean’s Twelve should be a lot of fun as well. The only one on your list that I have seen is The Incredibles, which is fantastic. So I guess what I have to say means basically nothing to you. If you’re in the mood for a little silliness, SpongeBob could do the trick. I really enjoy it, but it’s not for everyone. Check out rottentomatoes.com for reviews.
Here’s how I rank your options, best option first:
The Incredibles
Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie
Finding Neverland
Ocean’s Twelve
Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events
Flight of the Phoenix
Meet the Fockers
National Treasure
Polar Express

I’d probably go with Spongebob. My husband would probably say Meet the Fockers.
What is Flight of the Pheonix?

Everyone just remember that Bryce I. and Joseph Smith share the same birthday.

I suggest getting a copy of Napolean Dynamite and watching it at home. Actually I haven’t seen it yet but I anticipate that I’ll be seeing it TONIGHT!
From what I’ve heard in reviews and from friends, Incredibles is the movie to see. But I still have to go see that one as well.
